In the annual report, we look back on the key events of the past year. The fire at our Rozenburg facility in September 2023 had a major impact on our organisation. After an intense period of reconstruction, starting up the first incineration lines again on 1 October marked an important milestone. We were able to resume our processing operations and once again begin supplying energy. This is an achievement we are proud of – made possible by the expertise and dedication of our people, and the support of our customers, partners, suppliers, insurers, and shareholders.

Next to the challenges, the situation also created opportunities. As outlined in the report, a number of projects were brought forward and completed ahead of schedule. They included maintenance work on parts of the plant that are usually in full operation, such as the bunker and electricity systems, and accelerated progress in preparing for the CO₂ capture installation in Rozenburg. In addition, we made extra investments in training and development.

Looking ahead, AVR remains committed to sustainable growth. Our aim is to be fully operational again by the end of 2025, with two new energy-efficient turbines contributing to electricity production. In addition, we are continuing to make progress in the development of our CO₂ capture installations and in the recovery of valuable materials from residual waste.
